CLAPP (Cleft Lip & Palate Association of Pakistan) was founded in 2003 at Faisalabad, Pakistan with the main objective to provide free Surgeries to all poor Cleft Lip & Palate patients, who cannot afford a single surgery which would change their whole Life – once forever “from Disabled to Enabled”. CLAPP was registered in 2006 with Provincial (Punjab) Government. Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) granted status of Income Tax Exemption since 2008.
“CLAPP Foundation” was registered as Non-Profit Organization in New York, USA in 2012.
CLAPP Trust is a not for profit organization, dedicated to alleviating sufferings of children born with Cleft Lip & Palate deformities in Pakistan and now in Afghanistan as well. CLAPP has so far operated more than 27,000 poor and deserving Cleft patients at CLAPP General Hospital, Faisal Town, Lahore, and in more than 146 Cleft Missions in Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Why CLAPP Founded
Major government hospitals throughout Pakistan, do not operate more than 60-80 Cleft Lip or Palate patients every year. Mainly because, the government hospitals have to look after other patients such as other congenital deformities, Acute Burns, Reconstructive surgery and although rarely but, Cosmetic surgery as well.
Cleft Patients had to wait for more than a year or so to get appointments for their surgery and most of them became disappointed in the meantime. Number of operating rooms for Plastic Surgery were not sufficient to cope to the increasing burden of cleft surgeries.
Considering this unfortunate scenario, an initiative was taken by the renowned Plastic Surgeon Prof.
Dr. Ghulam Qadir Fayyaz. Realizing the need to help maximum number of cleft patients in a timely manner and without any prejudice to the monetary status of the families,he raised funds from Philanthropists of Faisalabad to construct and equip three new operating rooms at Punjab Medical College, Allied Hospital, Faisalabad. These Operating rooms were then used exclusively for the treatment of Cleft Lip & Palate patients. Functioning of these three operating rooms was a milestone in the quest to help thousands of Cleft Lip & Palate patients every year.
During this time, Prof. Dr. Ghulam Qadir Fayyaz discussed the pathetic condition of Cleft patients with his friends at Faisalabad and so a like-mindedness was developed to form CLAPP Trust.
